‘every human knows the magic, power and medicine of a story or song delivered at the right moment. storytelling and music making play a vital part in bringing people together.’ chris holland
‘kinship in nature’ has been exploring music and storytelling in the forest over the past three years. more recently, with both a musician and storyteller in the k.i.n team, we have observed the positive impact these have had on our kinship. we have decided to host chris holland, a leading inspiration in the industry, to come and share his work with us. both workshops contain playful, simple and revolutionary processes to connect people to the natural world, each other and their own creative capabilities.
read our story of when chris visited k.i.n last year to lead a combined ‘natural musicans’ & ‘storytelling’ workshop here.
storytelling:
sharing tricks of the trade for story-making and story-retelling, chris gets people to work with their edges to becoming a better storyteller. whether we have a natural talent for telling or not, we can always improve in some way and chris supports people to let go of ‘the thorn of perfection’ and realise that there is no such thing as a perfect storyteller and that we all tell tales in different ways. telling stories in outdoor spaces, people tend to be less inhibited and more ‘natural’ and this kind of setting also lends itself to stories which encourage wonder and connection with the natural world. chris works with a ‘bundle’ of creation myths, wonder tales and sustainability fables from around the world, enhanced by an intriguing collection of musical instruments. more information about chris’s storytelling work here.
natural musicians:
this work will develop your aptitude for making music and support you to facilitate this for others. ‘natural musicians’ is a set of experiential activities and games that involve movement, vocal expression and natural objects. we make instruments and create, compose and perform music using voice, rhythm body percussion and found sounds. music can really bring something essential when working with both adults and children. with more than half of a human’s communication being non-verbal, it can create connection with other humans and nature, develop expression and culture. it also supports group work with gathering, transitions, focus and redirecting energy. more information about chris' ‘natural musicians’ work here.
shared lunch:
a big pot of soup (vegan) and freshly baked bread from the ‘wild goose bakery’ will be served for everyone to eat together for lunch. hot drinks will be made over the fire.
this is a great opportunity to also connect with others in and around east london to learn and grow together. read more about why k.i.n is hosting workshops here.

we work with practitioners from related nature based fields to host workshops.
we believe that being connected to nature is equally important for adults as it is children. the journey of deepening this connection and working with nature is endless and has countless wellbeing benefits on an individual and collective level for humankind as well as for the greater web of nature - the plant, animal kingdoms and beyond - that we are interconnected with.
