summer camps 21’
this was our first summer of running five camps in a row! it was such a joy to feel that we were fully back in the forest and to witness how much the children thrive from being in this environment. here is a round up of just some of what we got up to during our time together and a photo gallery to glimpse some of the moments:
🌻 aquiring ‘nature names’ as a way to drop into a forest alter-ego and also get to know different elements of nature and the creatures & plants that are living on our site
🗺 site orientation, working with the directions and looking at the various hazards that could be found (mushrooms, exposed roots, poisonous plants/berries, deadwood etc) in nature
🌳free play - digging, rope swing, trapeze, hammock, climbing, balancing on slackline, running around, playing & exploring
🦅playing ‘eagle eye’ which taught us about eagles super vision, how it helps them hunt and how to become invisible as 'prey'
🪵wood work in the tool area to make mallets, bows & arrows, swords, butter knives
📿 loppering and drilling hazel beads to make jewellery/medallions
🔥 campfire using the most ancient firefighting method of bow drill
🐾 finding ‘special spots’ in the woods to sit quietly & observe nature
🎶 singing songs, playing the guitair & ukulele, jamming togther
🌾cooking popcorn on the fire
🦊 finger knitting ‘foxes tails’
🌱 blackberry picking
☀️ ’sun wheel’ weaving
